Overview

Mount Kailash, towering at 6,700 meters with its symmetrical cone shape and crystalline ice cap, is a revered pilgrimage site for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bön-Po. For Tibetans, it is the embodiment of Mount Meru, “the navel of the earth.” Hindus consider it the home of Lord Shiva, Buddhists revere it as the abode of Samvara, and Jains honor it as the place where their prophet Rishaba attained enlightenment. With its four sheer walls, distinctive snow-covered peak, and valleys filled with vibrant Tibetan pilgrims, Mount Kailash, also known as Khang Rimpoche (“precious snow-peak”), is truly awe-inspiring.

From here, four of Asia’s great rivers—the Karnali, Indus, Sutlej, and Brahmaputra (Tsangpo)—originate. A three-day trek (Parikrama or Kora) around Mount Kailash over the 5,630-meter Drolma La pass is believed to cleanse the sins of a lifetime. This sacred journey includes a bath in the holy Lake Manasarovar, located on the stunning Tibetan plateau and bordered by the majestic Gurla Mandata.

Your adventure begins with a comprehensive trip briefing in Kathmandu, followed by a breathtaking trans-Himalayan flight to Lhasa, passing over Mount Everest and several of the world’s highest peaks (if you join the tour in Kathmandu). This is the only flight that offers such spectacular views of Mount Everest and other peaks.

In Lhasa, you’ll enjoy a sightseeing tour, visiting all the palaces and monasteries. After exploring these major sites and acclimatizing, your Kailash journey starts with a luxury 4WD Land Cruiser, allowing you to delve into the rich tapestry of Tibetan arts, crafts, history, culture, customs, traditions, lifestyle, and cuisine, leading to profound spiritual experiences.Along the way, you’ll encounter various indigenous cultures as you travel through Gyantse, Shigatse, and other significant ancient cities.

Driving across the vast Tibetan Plateau, you’ll reach the sacred Lake Manasarovar before undertaking the trek (Kora)around Mount Kailash, crossing the highest point at Dolmala Pass (5,630 meters). After this extraordinary journey, you’ll cross the expansive arid plains, head south to the Nepalese border, and return to Kathmandu. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime trip, filled with breathtaking scenery and cultural highlights.
